Switch up your old routine of silver party shoes and add some bright yellow to your look. Like all Naya shoes, the Naya Telluride‘s construction includes natural and eco-friendly materials whenever possible, and designed with premium comfort features to keep you comfortably on your toes. Pikolinos Praised for their Eco and Socially Sustainable Business

Jun11

Pikolinos was recently featured in a fabulous feature article on TreeHugger.com for their good works. Pikolinos is one of our favorite eco friendly shoe brands because of their smart, sustainable decisions and their use of eco friendly materials like vegetable-tanned leathers, water based inks, dissolvent free glues and biodegradable soles, but we also love them for their social consciousness.

This year, Pikolinos shoes launched a new line of footwear that are decorated by designs from Masai women in Kenya. This nomadic tribe has had trouble surviving with the changing modern world. Pikolinos approached the women because of the burgeoning success in selling their jewelry and asked them to apply their talents to embellishing Pikolinos shoes. Although the carbon footprint of the shoes is boosted by the production of the shoes in Spain, the shipping to Africa, and then the shipping back – all before distribution – the shoes are unique and beautiful and the impact on this small African community is huge.

Pikolinos has found yet another way to support communities and the world through their company and policies. We love supporting brands like Pikolinos footwear!

They use organic cottons, hemp blends, recycled car tires for outsoles and foot form inserts made from post consumer recycled paper. Greenbees: Gorgeous Sandals and Boots that are Good for the Planet

Apr30

Every year, one billion tires are discarded, left to sit in landfills for thousands of years. It’s a troubling problem. The founders of Greenbees, however, didn’t let this statistic get them down. Instead, drawing inspiration from their fond childhood memories of afternoons spent on tire swings, they found another use for these tires –as the soles of stylish shoes!

And thus, Greenbees eco-friendly shoes were born. They aren’t just good for the earth – they’re fashionable, and you can find them in pages of all the biggest magazines. Using soft leathers, delicate detailing and recycled tire soles, Greenbees boots and shoes have become a favorite of stars and fashion editors everywhere.

We love that Greenbees has worked to end this eco-problem by giving new life to a childhood memory and creating some beautiful shoes!

Greenbees EmiliaFit for a goddess the Greenbees Emilia sandal is a hot look for this season. Look great and feel great about wearing these Greenbees sandals.

The Greenbees Emma boot is set in a leather upper with fine contrast-stitching and embossed logos that give it a one-of-a-kind look.

El Naturalista Shoes – There’s Just Something About Them…

Apr29

Million Tree ChallengeThere is just something about an El Naturalista shoe. Maybe it’s the gorgeous and eco-conscious materials. Or the eye-catching colors. Or maybe it’s the unique and beautiful outsoles. Whatever it is, we cannot get enough of El Naturalista shoes here at Planet!

Our appreciation extends beyond just their beauty – we love how these shoes are made! Made in Spain, they are crafted out of materials we feel great about. These eco-friendly shoes feature naturally treated leathers, recycled carbon insoles, and recycled rubber and cork outsoles. They are hand stitched for a truly exquisite look and the anatomic and removable insoles make them comfortable enough to wear all day!

A pair of El Naturalista’s are so much more than shoes. They embody a philosophy that extends far beyond simply what you put on your feet. Constructed with a reverence for life, experience and the environment, each line of El Naturalista shoes is inspired by a fascinating story. Whether it’s world traveling, nature or childhood memories, these finely crafted and beautiful El Naturalista shoes carry with them a love of adventure and eco-fashion.

El Naturalista Cork Oak N402The El Naturalista Cork Oak N402 is part of a collection that pays homage to the popular sustainable and recyclable material, cork, and those who work to harvest it.

Revered for qualities such as being waterproof, lightweight, insulating and abrasion-resistant, cork is used in the sole of this El Nat shoe.

It is also shock-absorbing, so you know the N402 will be comfortable!

This style is also just plain beautiful with a high quality eco friendly leather upper and comfortable clog fit. In fact, the top strap is even adjustable. Perfection!

El Naturalista Duna N522Turn heads in this gorgeous El Naturalista shoe. The El Naturalista Duna N522 is a cut-out bootie style set in a layered leather upper.

A side zip makes it easy to get in and out of and the heel adds a sophisticated look. The multi colored ankle details offer great contrast and the rough seaming adds visual interest. This bootie makes a fun and sexy fashion statement.

The Duna collection is inspired by the dunes of the Namib Desert and this is reflected in the beautiful detail of the outsole.

Made with eco friendly materials and responsible construction techniques, the Duna is as fashionable as it is comfortable.

El Naturalista Arrecife N312Inspired by the Great Barrier Reef, the Arrecife collection from El Naturalista brings attention to and pays homage to the beauty of this natural wonder, one that reminds this shoe’s creator of a community of stars.

This collection is El Naturalista’s way of raising awareness that the reef is in danger of disappearing and through these finely crafted shoes, El Naturalista seeks to help save the natural beauty of the reefs.

The Arrecife N312 is a great summer slide. Offering full protection, this style is easy to slip on and off. Set in a naturally treated leather upper, it features stylish hand-stitching detail on the vamp.

Groundhog – Footwear that Cares – Eco Friendly Shoes!

Apr28

Million Tree ChallengeGroundhog is in the business of eco friendly shoes. Their overall goal as a company is reducing their global footprint and they do this not only through producing great looking eco friendly shoes from sustainable materials using responsible construction but also with all of their business practices. From shoes to shipping, they are conscious and careful. Sourcing local materials whenever possible, incorporating materials like cork, natural latex, semi vegetable tanned leathers and coconut shell buttons, Groundhog has become a leading eco-friendly shoe brand and we’re super proud to have them here at PlanetShoes.com!

Groundhog RaymoreOne of our favorites this season is definitely the Groundhog Raymore. This is a funky and fun eco gladiator sandal, featured in one of our videos here on the blog.

Offered in three different colors, the super soft eco friendly leather feels great on your foot while you’re being cradled with a molded and supportive footbed.

The Velcro straps make offers fit flexibility and customization. The bamboo microfiber lining helps to keep your feet cool and your sandals smelling fresh no matter how often you wear them this summer. We love the Raymore because it offers a great take on today’s trends in a funky and eco conscious way!

Groundhog JennyNext up is the Groundhog Jenny. This sweet Mary Jane is a must have! Offered in two lovely and neutral shades, this shoe is incredibly comfortable and can easily be worn into the office or out and about all weekend long.

Constructed with a semi vegetable dyed leather upper, the Jenny is set apart with its fun contrast stitching and seaming details.

They are embellished with a lovely wooden button and the natural crepe rubber sole give these shoes a unique and earthy look.

The Groundhog Jenny really is a perfect transitional shoe that can take you through all seasons in style and eco consciousness.

Groundhog HighlandNow for something a little different – the Groundhog Highland. This is a great cross between a sandal and a lace up shoe. You’ll get the stability and snug fit that you love from your lace up but in an open construction that leaves you with that happy sandal feeling.

The Highland is actually entirely lined with a bamboo charcoal coated fabric which will help control moisture and odors and the footbed is made from a natural coconut matting.

The upper is semi-vegetable tanned leather and the crepe rubber outsole will absorb shock. This is a great shoe offering comfort and style while being fabulously green in consciousness.

Groundhog CedarWhere would we be without a Groundhog clog? Hot this season, the Groundhog Cedar is a great eco friendly clog option. Offered in brown and black semi vegetable tanned leathers, our favorite feature of this clog is the strappy styling.

Basically, Groundhog has created the structure of the clog using thin straps and has topped it off with an adjustable larger strap over the top.

This adds to the comfort of the shoe, making it customizable and snug but you get the benefit of the open construction at the top that adds a stylish twist. This is a great clog with all the benefits of Groundhog’s comfort construction and eco consciousness.

We love Groundhog shoes and we know you will too. They feel great, have a funky style all their own and best of all, they are using sustainable business practices and materials in the making of their shoes.

Acorn Slippers – Eco Friendly, Vegan and Cozy!

Apr25

Founded in 1976 by David Quinn, Acorn has brought ‘Comfort On Earth’ to feet around the world for 34 years. Always innovative, Acorn brings new designs, new ideas and an eye to the future with each new creation. From their first revolutionary slipper sock to the newest line of eco slippers, these are the top of the line in superior comfort. Acorn has been dedicated to being a environmentally responsible company, finding ways to incorporate organic and recycled materials as well as keeping their own footprint as small as possible.

Acorn has been a business leader for decades and they continue to lead the way in finding ways to reduce their environmental impact. They are actively finding ways to incorporate recycled materials in their product packaging. While at their headquarters in Lewiston, Maine they are eliminating toxic cleaning chemicals and recyling! The Acorn catalogs and collateral are printed on wood-free, PEFC-certified paper using soy-based ink- very cool. This company cares about the future of this planet and finding ways to thrive as a business in partnership with the environment.

Acorn Eco ThongAcorn’s Eco line of slippers features materials such as hemp, wool, cotton, silk and yak down and are a delight in style and in comfort. The Acorn Eco Thong has luxurious soft French terry linings of hemp and certified organic cotton.

The hemp is sustainably grown- which I love! And the natural properties of hemp make it durable and resistant to bacterial odor, a nice touch since no one likes smelly slippers! With simple, clean lines this series of eco slippers has a modern style. With several different styles of slipper from the scuff to the thong in this new line, you will find just the one for you.

Acorn Tribal ThongAcorn’s line of Tribal slippers have gorgeous embroidery detail that layer pattern and color in an eye-catching design sure to be a favorite. The soft woven slippers are lined in a cotton blend of terry that will keep your toes just the right temperature while surrounded by softness.

The natural silk piping details around this slipper make it just that much more luxurious and rich in detail. An indoor-outdoor sole means you can make a quick run to the mailbox or to get the morning paper without fussing with changing your shoes. The Tribal slippers are here in three different looks, the ballet, scuff and thong, each using the embroider detail and super comfortable contoured footbed. I think my favorite is the Acorn Tribal ballet, and just for an extra bonus, it’s vegan!

Acorn Spa ThongPerfect for summer, the Acorn spa thong lets you keep the luxurious softness of a slipper all through the hot days ahead. I love the super soft cotton terry on these, you will, too! The contoured footbed designed by Acorn supports your feet increasing your stability when walking in these lush spa slippers.

A layer of lofty Acorn memory foam takes this slipper to the top of the list for comfort! These also have a skid resistant sole, which helps me keep my footing around the house. Four fresh colors mean you can pick your favorite! And again, Acorn has made all of this luxurious comfort vegan! So cool.

Patagonia, A Company Connected To The Environment

Apr14

Million Tree ChallengeA life-long passion for rock climbing, camping and being outdoors fuels the fires of Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia. Since 1965 his visionary company has led the way in innovation for climbing gear, outdoor clothing and camping equipment that sets to standard for the outdoor industry. As success brought expanded production, more and more products and a faster pace of creation Chouinard worried about his company’s impact on the environment.

Never one to sit quietly and ignore a problem, Chouinard began finding ways to alter corporate policy, create environmental foundations and shape his company into an environmental business leader. You can see his passion in the products that he makes and the way that Patagonia strives to combine natural materials and recycled products with design that makes performance number one.

Maui MocPatagonia’s line of barefoot inspired moccasins, the Maui Moc features super lightweight construction and breathable materials. Natural hemp, corduroy and perforated leather mean that feet are comfortable and protected without feeling bound by stiff and uncomfortable shoes.

A polyester air mesh lining keeps moisture away from feet and allows a cool and dry feeling for all day comfort. Patagonia footwear uses natural hemp, and a 20% recycled EVA footbed and midsole in this shoe!

Patagonia TsaliFor Summer running there is no better shoe than the Patagonia Tsali. A high performance running shoe that is also ultra lightweight and designed with a breathable air mesh upper to allow you to feel as though there is nothing on your feet at all. Just 20-ounces per pair!

The designers at Patagonia have created a gender-specific, anatomical footbed (using 20% recycled materials!) that puts the support exactly where it should be and eliminates anything unneeded or uncomfortable. A reinforced X-Dynamic lacing system continues the custom fit so that your trail-worthy Patagonia running shoes feel like they were made just for you.

Trinium sandalLadies, the Trinium sandal is here to make your Summer fabulous! With only the minimum this sandal makes the maximum impact and are sure to be some of your favorites. Featuring a subtle cross of different sized leather straps placed to give you maximum stability and comfort without leaving feet feeling covered and uncomfortable, Trinium delivers both style and comfort.

The ankle strap means you can wear these sandals anywhere without worry from poolside to top deck and all around town. Patagonia again uses materials designed to lessen our impact on the planet with a cork-wrapped footbed and a stitched construction that minimizes the need for toxic solvents and adhesives. The EVA footbed/midsole is made of 15% recycled material while the rubber outsole is made of 20% recycled materials!

In 2002 Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia and Craig Mathews, owner of Blue Ribbon Flies, combined forces to create 1% For The Planet. This foundation provides a way for businesses to donate 1% of their net sales to support the planet. Environmental organizations around the world have benefited from these partnerships and each company can select what what groups receive their 1% so money can stay local or go global. Since its creation in 2002, 1% FTP has added more than 1,200 partner businesses and raised $50 million for the planet.

In 2005 Patagonia started a revolution with a recycling program for many pieces of their clothing called Common Threads Recycling Program.  Recycling products from their Capilene® Performance Baselayers, Patagonia cotton t-shirts, Nylon 6 products, Patagonia fleece and even accept Polartec® fleece from other companies. It isn’t every article of clothing made by Patagonia, but it is a start and they are working on developing ways to recycle even more of their products after their useful life is at an end. Keeping these items from landfills around the world and reducing all of our footprint here on the planet.
